- Restrict Device Functionality—Allow or restrict built-in apps, such as Camera, Safari, and FaceTime
- Tap the child's device you want to apply app restrictions to.
- If you want to restrict apps by app category, tap Allowed Apps and use the switches under Allowed App Categories to restrict app categories.
If the switch next to an app category is enabled, apps in that category are allowed on the child's device. You can tap the switch to disable it and restrict the app category. The settings are applied to the child's device immediately. If a child's device is offline, the settings will be applied the next time the device is online.
-
- If you want to temporarily restrict the child's access to only specific apps for a set amount of time, tap Allowed Apps, then tap Enable App Lock and do the following:
- Under Set duration, select the duration of time, in hours and minutes, during which only specified apps will be available on the device, then tap Set.
- Tap each app that you want the child's device to have access to. A checkmark displays next to each app that will be available on the child's device.Note:
If you allow only one app, that app launches on the child's device and they cannot exit the app until the App Lock timer expires.
- Tap Done to save your selections. App Lock is immediately applied to the child's device and a countdown timer displays the time remaining. To modify the specified apps, tap Change Allowed Apps. To clear App Lock from the device before the configured time is over, tap Disable App Lock.
- If you want to restrict built-in apps, tap Allowed Apps, then tap Restrict Device Functionality and use the switches to restrict built-in apps, and tap Done.
If the switch next to a built-in app is enabled, that app is allowed on the child's device. You can tap the switch to disable it and restrict the built-in app. The settings are applied to the child's device. If a child's device is offline, the settings will be applied the next time the device is online.
If app restrictions are applied to a child's device and then removed, the changes may take several minutes to be applied to the device.
- If you want to temporarily restrict the child's access to only specific apps for a set amount of time, tap Allowed Apps, then tap Enable App Lock and do the following:
Setting Device Rules
You can use device rules to schedule app restrictions on your child's device, such as during homework time or bedtime.
You can create an Ad Hoc device rule to restrict apps at any time or create a Day & Time device rule and configure the days and times a device rule should be active.
- Tap the child's device you want to configure the device rule for.
- Tap Device Rules.
- Tap Create Device Rules.
- Tap the type of device rule you want to set.
- Select the category of apps you want to restrict and tap Next.
- If you selected Custom as the app category, do the following:
- Select the specific apps you want to restrict and then tap Next.
- Tap Add a Website to enter the websites you want to allow and tap Next.
- (Day & Time type only) Use the switches to set which days and times the device rule should be active and tap Next.Example:
To create a device rule that blocks an app on weeknights, you could use the switches to set Monday through Friday and set the Begin and End Times to the evening hours you want to restrict access to the app.
- Enter a name for the device rule and tap Save.
- (Optional) If you want the device rule to be immediately applied to a child's device for a set amount of time, tap the device rule and set a duration, in hours and minutes, for the device rule to be active on the child's device, then tap Start.Note:

Allowing/Restricting Websites
You can use Jamf Parent to choose which websites your child can access on their school-issued device by configuring an allowed websites list or a blocked websites list.
- Tap the child's device you want to apply website restrictions to.
- Tap Websites.
- Enable the Websites filtering switch.
- Under Websites filtering method, tap Allow to enable the child's device to access only listed websites or tap Block to block the child's device from accessing all listed websites.
- Enter the URL of the website you want to either allow or block, depending on your website filtering selection, then tap + Add website.Best Practice:
Some websites may automatically redirect users to a URL that is different from the one originally entered. For example, if a child enters www.bbc.co.uk, they may be automatically redirected to www.bbc.com. To ensure the child can access the intended website or that the intended website is blocked, add both the original website URL and the redirect website URL to the list.
- Repeat step 5 as needed to add more websites to the list.
The specified list of allowed or blocked websites is applied to the child's device. If a child's device is offline, the settings will be applied the next time the device is online.
To remove a website from the allowed or blocked website list, tap the trash button next to the website.
Removing a device from JAMF Parent
By removing your child's device from Jamf Parent, you will no longer be able to manage their school-issued device.
To remove a child's device from Jamf Parent, tap the settings button in the upper-right corner, then under Account, locate the name of the child's device you want to remove and tap Remove. When prompted to confirm the removal, tap Yes.
