Our District
About our District
The Mississinewa Community School Corporation is located in the communities of Gas City and Jonesboro, Indiana. We are located about one hour northeast of Indianapolis. In the late 1800’s when we discovered natural gas in our area, our population increased rapidly. Currently the population of Gas City and Jonesboro is approximately 7,800.
The students of our school system attend four schools. Westview Elementary, located in Jonesboro, serves our preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students. Westview currently houses about 450 students. Northview Elementary, located in Gas City, serves grades two through five. Currently approximately 700 students attend Northview. R.J. Baskett, located in Gas City, is a middle school housing grades six through eight. Approximately 600 students attend R.J. Baskett. Mississinewa High School, located in Gas City, serves grades nine through twelve and has an enrollment of 750.
The Mississinewa Board of School Trustees provides the students of our community with first-rate academic and extra-curricular facilities along with an excellent faculty that challenges our students to make the most of the opportunities presented to them each day. We have a long and gloried tradition of academics, athletics, and the arts.
We at Mississinewa Community Schools are proud of our history of excellence in the classroom. Our starting salaries average above the state average, while our overhead expenditures are below state average. Our students regularly perform at or above state average, and our graduation and attendance rates are far above other districts in the state. Mississinewa High School is one of a select few schools across Indiana chosen to participate in the AP TIP IN program. Sponsored by the University of Notre Dame, this program helps to prepare students for college by making advanced placement courses and testing available to our students.
Our schools offer fine arts and technology to all our students, all-day kindergarten, and Head Start and free and reduced lunch to qualifying students. We also have a free summer lunch program available to all children within our district boundaries. Visit our school wed pages to find out more about what we can offer your child.
